On Thursday night (May 8, 2025), Afua Asantewaa posted a screenshot of Guinness’s response regarding her attempt on social media to announce that she had been disqualified from her second Guinness World Records attempt at the longest singing marathon by an individual attempt, Singathon.
She wrote “It’s been a challenging yet rewarding journey, and an incredible experience. Having had the opportunity to explore my potential on the esteemed Guinness World Records platform on two occasions has led to discovery, growth, development, success, and life-altering events that have shaped my being,”
She stated further :”I, on behalf of my dedicated team, would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has supported, cheered, provided constructive criticism, been inspired, encouraged, and believed in my journey”
According to the competition organizers, Afua failed in her attempt after she took a 15-minute break instead of the recommended five minutes of rest time during her Activity and Rest Sequence 19. Afua Asantewaa also took another 105-minute break during sequence 21 when she had only accrued 10 minutes of rest time.
Guinness stated that Afua had to be disqualified due to these breaches and also to show fairness to other competitors worldwide.
On December 21, 2024, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum made her second effort to obtain a GWR recognition at Baba Yara Stadium’s Heroes’ Park in Kumasi, Ghana. After 121 hours and 39 minutes of singing, the media celebrity called it quits on December 26, 2024.
Currently the record is held by Indian vocalist Sunil Waghmare In 2012, at 105 hours, which Afua has tried to surpass on two occasions.
