Reuters report that TikTok app is planning for a shutdown in the United States Of America on Sunday.
President elect, Donald Trump assumes power after his inauguration ceremony on Monday 20th January 2025.
Prior to the inauguration ceremony, the social media app’s fate will be decided by the U.S supreme court on Sunday 19th January 2025.
President Trump started breathing threats of banning the app right after he won the U.S elections.
Since then, the app has faced uncertainties as to its existence. It is accused of being a National Security threat to the U.S. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will decide on the ban on Sunday.
Already, a law was singed in April mandating a ban on new TikTok downloads on Apple or Google app stores if Chinese-parent ByteDance fails to divest the site.
As the Supreme will decide on the fate of the App, the company plans to give users an option to download all data for their personal record. America alone has over 170 million TikTok users.
The Company’s representative said shutting down the app will not only affect users in the U.S but will affect other users in different parts of the world.
