Elikplim Akurugu, the National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate for the Dome Kwabenya constituency has been declared winner of the parliamentary contest.

The election results for that constituency was earlier quashed by the EC. The initial declaration went in the favor of the NDC candidate but was quashed. One polling station had disputed results that resulted in the outright cancellation of the whole process.

The two major parties have for the past two weeks fiercely contested the results of that constituency.

Though that constituency has for so many years been the stronghold of the NPP, the initial result went in favor of the NDC this time around.

The contested results prompted the EC to decide a re run of the elections for that polling station before a clear pronouncement of the winner is made.

The EC however, in a press conference on Tuesday has decided not to re run the election for that polling station.

In its announcement, the EC announced that Mike Oquaye Jr, the NPP candidate secured 50,669 votes up against Faustina Akurugu of the NDC’s 50,967 votes.

The EC, based on these figures declared Faustina Akurugu of the NDC winner and MP elect.
