The Techiman Traditional Council has firmly refuted allegations regarding an attack on the convoy of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The incident was said to have occurred as the Asantehene was returning from Nkoranza, where he attended the burial and funeral rites of the late Nana Dudaa Kani, the Paramount Queen Mother of the Nkoranza Traditional Area.

The reported attack took place on December 2, 2024 in Techiman, the capital of the Bono East Region. Eyewitness accounts suggested that some irate individuals allegedly threw stones at the Asantehene’s convoy, leading to widespread concern and speculation. A video capturing the purported incident quickly went viral on social media, prompting discussions and reactions across various platforms.
In response to these allegations, Nana Takyi Firi II, the Krontihene (sub-chief) and Acting President of the Techiman Traditional Council, held a press conference to clarify the situation. He strongly condemned the actions attributed to the people of Techiman, stating unequivocally that “the Techiman and Asante are one people.” He emphasized that any claims of an attack are not only false but also damaging to the longstanding relationship between the two communities.

Nana Takyi Firi II elaborated on the historical ties between Techiman and Asante, noting that both leaders share a common heritage as members of the Oyoko clan. He highlighted that interactions between Nana Techimanhene and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II are frequent and cordial, reinforcing their brotherly relationship. “There is no way and justification that the people of Techiman will attack the Asantehene,” he asserted, expressing his dismay over how such allegations could arise.
The Acting President urged community members and social media users to exercise caution when sharing unverified information. He stressed that spreading false narratives can lead to unnecessary tension and misunderstandings between communities that have coexisted peacefully for generations.

In light of these events, local authorities, including the Ghana Police Service, have initiated investigations into the incident to ascertain the facts surrounding it. The police have called for calm among residents while they work to uncover any truth behind the claims made in social media reports.
