Press Release-ECOWAS Keeps Doors Open For Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger

Burkina Faso, Mali and Republic of Niger have withdrawn from the ECOWAS. Their withdrawal took effect 29th January 2025.

Notwithstanding their withdrawal, ECOWAS, has in the spirit of solidarity and in the interest of the people decided to keep the doors open within and outside the organizations Member States.

ECOWAS has instructed its member States to recognize National passports and identity cards bearing its logo held by citizens of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger until further notice.

Member States are also to treat goods and services coming from the three countries in accordance with the ECOWAS Trade Liberalization Scheme and investment policy.

Citizens of these countries are also to enjoy visa free movements and a few other privileges.

ECOWAS states that these measures should be in place while it engages the Governments of the three countries on further modalities.
