Manchester United have won the FA Cup after beating rivals Manchester City 2-1 in the final at Wembley.
The victory means that United, who finished eighth in the Premier League this season and 31 points behind champions City, secure a spot in the Europa League.
Alejandro Garnacho gave the Red Devils the lead with a close-range strike in the 30th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error between City’s Josko Gvardiol and goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.
Kobbie Mainoo extended United’s advantage nine minutes later with a precise finish.
Jeremy Doku reduced the deficit for City with a late goal in the second half, but United held firm to claim victory and rectify their loss to Pep Guardiola’s team in the previous season’s FA Cup final.
The triumph comes amid speculation that United manager Erik ten Hag is set to be sacked after a disappointing domestic league campaign.
A report on Friday claimed the Dutchman would be fired regardless of the outcome at Wembley.
If United had lost the final, they would not have been in Europe at all next season.
Today’s FA Cup victory makes United the 13th-time winners of the competition behind Arsenal who have won the cup a record 14 times.
