FC Barcelona has confirmed Hansi Flick as the new head coach for the men’s first team, with a contract extending until June 30, 2026.

The signing took place at the club’s offices in the presence of President Joan Laporta, the first vice president in charge of sports, Rafa Yuste, and sporting director Anderson Luís de Souza, known as Deco.

Hans-Dieter Flick, born 1965 in Heidelberg, Germany, began coaching in 1996 as a player-coach at FC Victoria Bammental. In 2000, he assumed the head coach role at Hoffenheim, where he remained for five seasons. Subsequently, he joined RB Salzburg’s coaching team, working alongside Giovanni Trapattoni and Lothar Matthäus.

Barcelona placed second behind Real Madrid’s rivals who won La Liga and beat the Catalans to win the Spanish Super Cup. Their poor performance made them part ways with Xavi days before the 2023/24 season ended.

The Catalan giants are hoping to revamp the first-team performance and reignite the footballing spirit during the eras when they were contenders for almost every competition
