Ghana’s leader of Parliament Hon Alban Bagbin has suspended four Members of parliament for 2 weeks.
These members are Hon Nelson Rockson Dafeamekpo, Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaibu, Hon. Alhassan Tampuli and Hon Annoh-Dompreh.
These members of parliament have been suspended due to their involvement in chaotic scenes created in parliament on 30th January 2025.
The scenes disrupted the vetting proceedings and truncated the process for more than 30 minutes. The violence also destroyed microphones and tables belonging to parliament.
The Committee on selection to meet later in the day and reconstitute the Appointments Committee to fill the vacancies left by the suspensions. Additionally, Parliament has been directed to file a criminal complaint over the incident to the police for further investigation.
Furthermore, the MPs involved are to be surcharged for damage to state property.
The character displayed by these MPs has dented the image of parliament. This has led many to express disappointment in the members of parliament and demanded appropriate behavior befitting of honorable members.
