The December 7th general elections has seen a lot of confusion and contention.

The presidential election was mainly between Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and Ex President John Dramani Mahama. The contest that was thought to be very keen was not quite so. Some even speculated a second round to determine the winner.

However, that was smoothly contested with Dr. Bawumia conceding defeat to John Mahama very early in the hours of Monday 8th December 2024.

The parliamentary elections on the other hand has brought all the confusion and misunderstanding. There has been court cases, possible recounting, and re-election, re-collating and more court cases.

However, there seem to be a finality to the confusion. Ghana’s 9th parliament is gradually taking shape.

The disputes on outstanding parliamentary results have all almost been cleared. The only constituency left is the Ablekuma North seat which is still under contention.

So far, the NDC has secured 183 seats compared to NPPs 88 seats with four independent candidates.

The NDC however has filed a case in court challenging results of some constituencies. The constituencies which are still being challenged by the NDC are Tema Central, Okaikwei Central, Techiman South and Ablekuma South.

The NDC has called the collation and declaration of the results of the four constituencies as illegal and unlawful.

They have thus promised to contest the results till they obtain their desired results.
