GES Introduces New Curriculum for SHS

The Ministry of Education has announced the deployment of a new curriculum for Ghana’s senior high schools.

The ministry in collaboration with its agencies: “the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) and the Ghana Education Service (GES) revealed that the new curriculum for senior high schools includes senior high technical schools and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) across the country.

The communication sent through the Ghana News Agency revealed that the new program will begin in November 2024 this term.

The Agency in the education sector responsible for the curricula has over the past two years developed, restructured and fine-tuned the new curricula to shape the youth in academic excellence.

About 300 experts throughout the country participated in stakeholder consultation and engagement. These experts were actively involved in shaping the new curricula to ensure that Ghana’s youthful population fully benefits from efficient education to be competitive in the world.

The teaching staff were not left out of the preparation and ensuring the robustness of the curricula. As part of the preparation, weekly professional programs were organized to equip teachers with the skills needed to handle the new curricula.

One of the major focuses of the new curriculum is to instill in students newer and sharper skills needed for the 21st-century’s fast-paced and technologically advanced world. It is also to introduce a holistic approach to education while shifting from the traditional memory type of learning that is solely based on passing examinations.
