A DHL cargo plane that left the city of Leipzig, Germany has crashed near Vilnius international Airport, Lithuania on Monday morning killing one crew member and injuring three others.

An official statement by DHL said “We can confirm that today, at approximately 4:30 am CET [0330 GMT], a Swiftair aircraft, operated by a service partner on behalf of DHL, performed an emergency landing about one kilometer from VNO Airport [Vilnius, Lithuania] while en route from LEJ Airport Leipzig, Germany] to VNO Airport”
A spokesperson from DHL Lithuania said they were investigating circumstances surrounding the crash. The spokesperson at the moment dismissed any possibility of a suspicious parcel in the cargo or foul play.
Lithuana Police chief Arunas Paulauskas however said the cause of the crash though unknown, he is not ruling out a possible terror attack.
Meanwhile, Boeing, the manufacturer of the aircraft said it was working together with authorities and the airline to provide any assistance.
Report indicate the plane fell a few kilometers before the airport. It performed an emergency landing and skid off the main airport runway. The parts of the aircraft that skidded off hit some residential infrastructure and subsequently catching fire.
At leas one infrastructure was destroyed before emergency services arrived on the scene.
