A social media poster that claimed the government had declared an increase in cocoa prices has been rejected as untrue by the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), which has issued a strong warning to the public.

According to the regulatory agency, the flyer claimed that Eric Opoku, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, had stated that cocoa growers will receive 70% of the global market price.

COCOBOD asked stakeholders and the public to ignore the false information and only use official lines of communication for up-to-date information on cocoa prices in a message that was issued on its official Facebook page.

The Authority stated: “Our attention has been drawn to a false flyer circulating on social media claiming that the Minister for Food and Agriculture has announced an increase in cocoa prices. This information is completely untrue,”

It further stated “We urge our cherished stakeholders and the public to disregard this fake news and rely only on official communication from COCOBOD and the Ministry.”

COCOBOD directed attention of all stakeholders to its official website and social media pages for any information concerning cocoa prices or the organization.
