Ghanaian Peacekeepers Injured in Missile Attack in Southern Lebanon

Two soldiers critically wounded as Ghana Battalion headquarters comes under fire during IDF-Hezbollah exchanges

ACCRA, GHANA — The Ghana Armed Forces confirmed today that its peacekeeping contingent in Southern Lebanon sustained a direct missile attack, critically injuring two soldiers and traumatizing a third.

The Ghana Battalion headquarters, operating under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), came under two missile strikes between 1745 and 1752 hours local time.

The attacks occurred amidst ongoing exchanges between the Israel Defense Forces and Hezbollah forces in the region.

The missiles struck the Officers Mess facility, completely burning it to the ground. Medical teams immediately transported the injured soldiers to the Level One Medical Bunker, where they remain in stable condition. Authorities are arranging evacuation to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital for further treatment.

“The Ghana Armed Forces urges the general public to remain calm amidst the fragile situation,” said Captain Veronica Adzo Rhino, Acting Director General of Public Relations. “Troops are currently safe in underground bunkers.”

The Government of Ghana has lodged an official protest at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This was done through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ghanaian officials urged all parties involved in the UNIFIL conflict zone to remember their responsibilities regarding peacekeeper safety.

This attack highlights the escalating tensions in Southern Lebanon and the increasing dangers facing international peacekeeping forces. The Ghana Battalion has maintained a presence in the region as part of international efforts to monitor ceasefires
