Harrisburg, PA – A former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate from Ghana now faces severe legal consequences in the United States following a disturbing domestic incident.

Specifically, authorities have confirmed the arrest of Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, the former NPP candidate for Klottey Korle, after he allegedly stabbed his wife over the weekend.

The violent episode occurred in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, resulting in the hospitalization of his wife and multiple criminal charges against Nortey.

According to Lower Paxton Township Police, they responded to a domestic incident along Mayfair Drive around 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

Details of the Incident and Charges

Upon arrival, first responders transported the victim to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, police report she remains in stable condition. Subsequently, investigators took Valentino Nortey, 41, of Harrisburg, into custody.

Consequently, he now faces formal charges including attempted homicide, possessing an instrument of crime with intent to use, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. Importantly, police have assured the public that there was never any broader threat to community safety.

Following his arraignment, Magisterial District Judge David Judy denied bail. As a result, online court records show Nortey is currently held at Dauphin County Prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 26, 2026.

Family Calls for Justice Amidst Shocking Allegations

Meanwhile, the family of the victim, Gilda Nortey, is speaking out and demanding accountability. In an exclusive interview with Citi News, Accra, relatives described a domestic dispute that escalated tragically, reportedly linked to discussions of divorce.

David Gyapanin, the victim’s uncle, provided a harrowing account.

“They had a little argument, and my niece said she may file for divorce if things continue that way,” he stated. “My niece said Valentino threatened to either kill himself or kill her. He stabbed her three times.”

Gyapanin further explained that after the stabbing, his niece pleaded to be taken to the hospital.

“He agreed on condition that she would not mention his name,”

Gyapanin said.

“Fortunately, she had the car key and managed to drive to the hospital where she works. She’s getting better. As a family, we want nothing less than justice.”

A Firm Stance from the Victim’s Family

The family is firmly placing their trust in the American judicial system while vowing to pursue justice relentlessly.

“It happened in the States, and we want to believe that the laws there will be enforced fully,”

Gyapanin asserted.

“You can’t marry someone’s daughter, and just because she says she no longer wants the marriage, decide to end her life. If justice isn’t served in the States, when he comes to Ghana, we will seek justice.”

Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stabbing. Currently, additional details about the incident remain limited as the investigation proceeds. However, the charges reflect the serious nature of the alleged assault.

The upcoming preliminary hearing on January 26 will mark the next step in the legal process. The community and the victim’s family now await further developments, hoping for a thorough judicial process that delivers appropriate justice.
