The Ghana Police Force has made a decisive arrest following a viral social media incident. Authorities detained a man captured on video firing warning shots into the air as a salute to Nigerian musician Asake.

This swift action came directly on the orders of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno.

Public Outrage Triggers Police Investigation

Initially, Ghanaian social media users expressed widespread fury after the video surfaced online.

In the clip, a man in a white mufti brazenly wields what appears to be a sophisticated rifle. Not only did he wield the weapon, he fired some shots into the air.

Consequently, a public outcry erupted, with many citizens demanding immediate police action against the individual for the dangerous display.

Indeed, such brazen acts, when displayed on social media, consistently provoke demands for accountability.

A Dangerous “Salute” Captured on Camera

During the event, the man addressed the crowd, acknowledging that warning shots are illegal in Ghana.

However, he stated that because his “brother from another mother,” Asake, was in town, he was seeking “permission” to celebrate.

Immediately after, he proceeded to hoist the firearm onto his shoulder and fire approximately ten rounds into the air.

As a result, the musician and his entourage reacted with jubilation, showering the shooter with praises for the reckless act.

IGP Orders Immediate Arrest

Following the viral spread of the video, the issue rapidly reached the highest levels of the police force. Subsequently, the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, ordered the immediate arrest of the individual involved.

The police force is currently handling the case, though an official statement detailing charges is still pending.

Suspicions of Police Affiliation Emerge

Meanwhile, significant speculation surrounds the identity of the shooter. Several sources suggest the man is, in fact, a police officer.

Allegedly, he is normally seen on patrol duties in the East Legon Hills and Adjiringanor areas of Accra. Furthermore, he appears to be a known fan of numerous celebrities.

On his TikTok handle, for instance, several videos and photos show him interacting with stars who pass by his supposed duty checkpoint.

A Stark Reminder Against Illegal Firearm Use

This arrest serves as a powerful reminder about the severe consequences of illegal firearm use. Firing warning shots, especially in a crowded celebratory setting, represents an extreme public safety hazard.

The Ghana Police Force’s response underscores a commitment to enforcing firearm regulations without exception, regardless of the context or intent behind the dangerous activity.

Ultimately, this incident highlights the zero-tolerance approach towards actions that endanger public peace and security.
