Two Women Arrested After Alleged Assault on 12-Year-Old Girl in Accra

ACCRA, Ghana – The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested two women in connection with the violent assault of a 12-year-old girl. This incident, which occurred in the La area, highlights ongoing concerns about vigilante justice and child safety in the community.

Details of the Assault Emerge

According to an official police release dated January 4, 2026, the incident was first reported on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. The victim’s mother approached the police with her daughter, who displayed visible marks of assault. Subsequently, she alleged that three women had attacked her child without provocation.

Upon receiving the complaint, officers immediately obtained a formal statement. They also issued a Police Medical Report Form to ensure the girl received a proper medical examination.

Investigation Points to Child Altercation as Trigger

Preliminary investigations soon revealed a triggering event. Earlier on the same day, the 12-year-old victim had an altercation with a seven-year-old boy named Horm Giftan Mesopeh, who is related to the suspects.

 

Following this child’s dispute, the suspects allegedly went to the victim’s house, brought her to their own residence, and assaulted her.

Police Make Two Arrests, Hunt for Third Suspect

The police acted swiftly on the information. On Wednesday, December 31, 2025, the complainant led officers to arrest two suspects. The arrested individuals are Precious Giftan Mesopeh, 22, and Princess Giftan Mesopeh, 25. Meanwhile, a third suspect remains at large.

She is identified as Priscilla Novishie Wornyo, 49, the mother of the two arrested women and a fashion designer by profession. Authorities report she has travelled to the Volta Region, and efforts to locate and arrest her are ongoing.

Consequently, the two women in custody have been formally charged. They are currently assisting with the investigation and will be arraigned before the court.

Police Issue Strong Public Caution

Furthermore, the Regional Police Command used this case to issue a firm warning to the public. They strongly cautioned against using violence to resolve disputes, especially those involving children. The statement advised parents, guardians, and community members to always seek lawful means to address grievances and to report incidents to the police promptly.
