The Republic of Russia has announced the development of a vaccine for cancer.
The vaccine mRNA is set to be made available in 2025. Reports from Russia indicates that a pre-clinical trial of the vaccine suppresses tumor and reduces metastases. Like many other vaccines, the mRNA is set to introduce the body to cancer causing agents in order to boost the body’s ability to fight and eliminate the cells.
Additionally, the cancer vaccines can combat cancer by stimulating the immune system to recognize and attack cancer cells. Therapeutic cancer vaccines target specific proteins or antigens expressed by tumor cells, training the immune system to identify and destroy them. The vaccine is set to enhance the body’s defense system, slow tumor growth, prevent recurrence or even eliminate early stage cancers
Russia says the vaccine will be available in 2025. Additionally, it will be administered to cancer patients free of charge.
The announcement was given by General Director of the Radiology Medical Research Centre of The Russian Ministry of Health Andrey Kaprin. He said “Russia has developed its own mRNA vaccine against cancer. It will be distributed to patients free of charge”.
Director of the Gamaleya National Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology, Alexander Gintsburg also said, “the vaccine’s pre-clinical trials had shown that it suppresses tumor development and potential metastases.
For many years, researchers have focused their attention on developing a potent vaccine that could curtail the devastation the cancer disease causes. Most of the efforts have not yielded the desired results.
Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin however was optimistic about the success of his country’s ability to develop the vaccine. Hence he announce with confidence this year via a television broadcast by saying “we have come very close to the creation of so-called cancer vaccines and immunomodulatory drugs of a new generation”.
He is hopeful of distributing the vaccines will alleviate the pains of many cancer patients in Russia and throughout the world.
