Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Minister for Government Communication has debunked the allegations surrounding two aircrafts that landed at the Kotoka International Airport.

The opposition NPP party led by Hon Rev John Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South alleged that some aircrafts that landed at the airport did so under suspicious circumstances.

The MP said the government carried out some illegalities such as money laundering and drug trafficking. These allegations got the attention of a lot of Ghanaians.

Hon Felix Ofosu Kwakye has however stated in a video that the said aircrafts were not used for such illegalities.

Hon Ofosu Kwakye Explains

The first aircraft was a cargo flight (Antanov flight 12BK) and landed for technical stop in Ghana on 12 March 2025. It carried goods meant for the European market. The plane originated from Angola, Luanda with oil drill equipment. He said Luanda does not meet the specific requirements to handle that flight. The flight did not have the specific requirement to land in the EU as well hence the landing in Ghana. Whiles, in Ghana, Hon Felix espoused further that the plane developed a fault. it had defective engine blade and and oil leakage. A replacement aircraft UR CEZ with reg number CVK7007 was brought to evacuate the Cargo. After which the damaged aircraft remained a the Kotoka Airport for additional 12 days after security officials had searched it for contraband.

Another aircraft in question, the Hawker 800XP operated by AirMed international located in Birmingham Alabama in the U.S operates as an air ambulance. It stopped in Ghana on 20th March for refueling and crew rest. It landed from Gran Canary, Spain after going through Luanda. Whiles here, it developed a tire burst and landing gear problem. Another aircraft with registration number N864 landed in Ghana again on 24 March and  arrived with tires and engineers from Luanda. Mr. Ofosu said, “Once this was fixed, it departed the Kotoka on 25th March”. The aircraft was also inspected by all the authorities to ensure  there were no contrabands.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, there are four air crafts involved. However, only two are in question according to the Minister. The first two landed and developed faults. Two others were dispatched as a solution to the faulty aircrafts.

He therefore called Rev Fordjour’s claims as false and baseless. Mr. Ofosu urged all to ignore the desperate attempts by the opposition to peddle malicious falsehood to tarnish the image of the Government.
