The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association has released a statement on its displeasure of government’s decision to dismiss newly recruited nurses and midwives.

The Association stated that its members are professional nurses who went through due process to be employed by the government.
It also stated that the recruitment process of its members began in the middle of the year 2024 and culminated in the recruitment of the 2020 cohorts of nurses and midwives who had completed their mandatory one year internship.

The Association also mentioned that the recruitment process which starts with the application for financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance by the Ministry of Health started in the middle of the year 2024.
GRNMA further clarified that processes for the enrollment on the payroll in some cases take time and may have resulted in those recruited not being placed on the payroll as at January 2025.

GRNMA charged the government and the Ghana Health Service to allow those newly recruited nurses and midwives who have not been placed on the payroll as at 7th December 2024 to be allowed to continue working until the said investigations are complete instead of asking them to go home before the investigations commence.

The Association cautioned government and the Health Service authority once more of series of industrial actions if its requests are not met.
