President Mahama’s Strategic Two-Country Visit
Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, embarks this Sunday on a crucial diplomatic mission to Japan and Singapore.
This official two-country visit is strategically designed to deepen bilateral relations, expand vital trade and investment links, and advance concrete cooperation on shared development priorities. Consequently, this tour promises significant potential benefits for Ghana’s economic growth and international partnerships.
Key Engagements in Japan for President Mahama
In Japan, President Mahama will first participate in the high-profile 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX). Here, he will actively present during a key plenary session focused on “The Economy: Promoting Trade and Investment.” Furthermore, the President will spearhead a dedicated Ghana Presidential Investment Forum, energetically showcasing Ghana’s diverse investment opportunities and outlining the transformative “Resetting Ghana” agenda to Japanese investors.
Additionally, President Mahama will engage in a series of targeted bilateral meetings with major Japanese partners. These include discussions with the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), senior officials from the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), and the Prime Minister of Japan, Shineru Ishiba. Consequently, these talks will directly address enhancing trade flows, securing investments, fostering technical cooperation, and developing critical infrastructure partnerships for Ghana.
State Visit to Singapore
Following the engagements in Japan, the President will immediately commence a significant three-day state visit to Singapore. This segment includes a formal courtesy call on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and high-level talks with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Moreover, President Mahama will actively participate in the Africa-Singapore Business Forum. Crucially, he will also address a major investment forum, clearly presenting Ghana’s reform priorities and investment landscape to strengthen vital private-sector linkages with Singaporean investors.
Ultimately, these visits have clear, actionable goals: to attract substantial new investment, broaden international market access for Ghanaian goods and services, mobilize essential technical and development cooperation, and bolster strategic partnerships in technology, infrastructure, finance, and human capital development.
Therefore, President Mahama’s delegation, including Government Communications Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu, departs Accra poised to secure tangible outcomes that will drive Ghana’s progress forward.
