The Office of The President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has released a list of a reduced number of ministers in his government.
The move is said to be a re-structuring formalized through the Civil Service (Ministries) Instrument, 2025 (E.I. 1).
The then Presidential candidate had promised to run a lean government to reduce the financial burden on the country. Hence, this directive is seen as a fulfillment of his promise prior to winning power.
Under the section 11(3) of the Civil Service Act, 1993 (P.N.D.C.L. 327) the president has the power to make changes to the Civil Service structure.
Hence, the newly established ministries and revocation of others by the President of Republic annuls the previous arrangement under the Civil Service (Ministries) Instrument, 2021 (E.I 12)
In the new Civil Service Instrument, some ministries have been consolidated. :
Recreation has been added to Sports and now called Ministry of Sports and Recreation. Local Government has seen the addition of Chieftaincy and Religious affairs and now called Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
