At least Nine people including a child have died, about 2,750 are injured and more than 200 are in critical condition in Lebanon as Israel is alleged to have attacked Hezbollah officials in various regions of Lebanon and Syria.
Reports indicate that Israeli intelligence might have breached the supply chain of the pagers used by Hezbollah officials during the supply process. It is also believed that the pagers were compromised and explosives were installed in them during transit
Experts speculate that the explosive materials were likely put into the devices either during manufacturing or before delivery in what would have been a highly sophisticated supply chain infiltration operation.
One American intelligence expert describes this as a possible Israeli clandestine operation that required quite a sophisticated process to carry out.
The pagers were supposedly manufactured by a Hungary-based firm BAC licensed to use the Gold Apollo brand and design based in Taiwan.
Commenting on the security alertness of the Hezbollah militant group, the American security and intelligence expert said the group let its guard down by first announcing its intention to forfeit mobile phones and turn to pagers to alert its adversaries in advance.
Hezbollah and its allies have vowed to continue fighting Israel in retaliation for this operation that has compromised the integrity of its security
Israel however, has not commented on this incident.
