Qatari officials swiftly accused Israel of “reckless” behavior and violating international law for striking a residential premises.
As a key mediator hosting Hamas’s political bureau, the Gulf nation called the attack on its sovereign soil a serious escalation.
Hamas Reports Delegation Survived, Others Killed
Hamas confirmed that an Israeli strike targeted its negotiating team, who survived. However, the group stated that the strike killed six others and published a list of the dead, which included several officials and a Qatari security corporal.
According to Hamas, those killed were:
Humam Al-Hayya (Abu Yahya) – son of chief negotiator al-Hayya
Jihad Labad (Abu Bilal) – director of al-Hayya’s office Abdullah
Abdul Wahid (Abu Khalil)
Moamen Hassouna (Abu Omar)
Ahmed Al-Mamluk (Abu Malik)
“Firstly, we confirm the enemy’s failure to assassinate our brothers in the negotiating delegation,” a Hamas statement said.
Furthermore, a Hamas statement called the attack a failure for Israel and proof that Prime Minister Netanyahu does not want a peace agreement.
US Was Notified, Denies “Green Light”
Both Israeli and US officials confirmed Washington was informed of the operation beforehand, likely due to the massive US al-Udeid airbase near Doha. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office stated the operation was “wholly independent.”
US President Donald Trump confirmed on Truth Social that he was notified and immediately directed his envoy to inform Qatari leaders, calling Qatar a “strong Ally” and expressing regret for the incident.
The strike marks a significant escalation, directly targeting Hamas leadership in a nation that has been a central hub for mediation talks, putting future negotiations and US-Qatar relations in focus.
