The Israeli Cabinet has agreed on a ceasefire deal with Lebanon armed group Hezbollah to take effect at 2am GMT and 4 am Lebanon time.
United States together with France brokered the ceasefire agreement which has been accepted by both Israel and Hezbollah.
U.S president Joe Biden announced that this is supposed to be a permanent end to the hostility between the two nations.
The Israeli cabinet voted 10 against 1 to the ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah.
Many people have reacted differently to the news. Residents in Southern Lebanon and Israel have both rejoiced over the ceasefire.
U.K prime minister Sir Kir Starmer has said the ceasefire will provide some measure of relief for the people of Southern Lebanon.
So far, it is believed that some 1.2 million people have had to leave their homes.
Some however do not believe in the ceasefire and have opined that Hezbollah will regroup and cause more mayhem in the immediate future. They believe that the ceasefire may well be a fragile relief for residents.
Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, addressing his nation however vowed to retaliate if Hezbollah violates the ceasefire terms.
Lebanese army will begin to take control of the southern part of the country in the next 60 days
A senior United States official says it will coordinate with Lebanese army on the ceasefire deal.
This is to ensure that neither parties, Israel and Hezbollah does not violate the peace deal. The official said however that its combat troops will not be present in Lebanon.
