Friday 3rd January 2025, the president delivered his final state of the nation’s address.
The president Nana Akuffo Addo delivered the address to the parliament of Ghana.
In the address, the president stated that he was leaving behind an economy that is thriving. He termed it as a “thriving Ghana” with a rebounding economy and strong democratic foundations
Talking about the state of Ghana’s economy, the president debunked the assertion that Ghana was broke. He called that a propaganda. To prove his point, he said his government was leaving behind almost $8 billion gross international reserves. He said his government on the other hand inherited $6.2 billion in 2017.
Among some of the points he highlighted during he address was the stabilization of the economy, navigating global challenges and implementing transformative policies.
The president also mentioned the debt restructuring program that brought a lo of hardships. He opined that despite the hardship, his government has maintained and strengthened a credible economy.
On economy recovery, Nana Addo said “Economic growth has also returned to the pre-COVID trajectory, with an impressive growth rate, rising from 4.8 per cent in the first quarter of 2024; seven per cent in the second quarter and 7.2 per cent in the third quarter,”
Education, Healthcare, Digitalization, Infrastructure and energy were some of the achievements the president mentioned as a result of his hard working administration.
The Free SHS which was a flagship program for the Nana Addo government was something the president will not miss.
Other sectors like the trade and industry, and investments in agriculture were also mentioned by the outgoing leader.
