Kennedy Agyapong, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has officially withdrawn from the NPP’s ongoing “Thank You” tour.

His decision follows a violent incident involving his supporters during a party event in Kumasi

Agyapong cited threats to the safety of his supporters after a violent clash in Bantama, Kumasi, where a student affiliated with his team was stabbed by some men believed to be linked to the NPP’s Dr Bawumia.

The altercation occurred when associates of Agyapong gave money to a group of students singing songs in Ken’s favor. Another group purported to be from that of Dr. Bawumia forcibly attempted to stop the students leading to escalated tensions resulting in the stabbing.

The injured supporter is receiving treatment at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Agyapong’s team has filed a police report over the incident.

Hon Agyapong stated that he could not guarantee the safety of his supporters leading to his withdrawal to prevent further violence.

He also emphasized his withdrawal was for “unity” within the party but also declared his intention to contest for the NPP’s flagbearer position in the future, stating, “Nobody can stop me from contesting”

He has also accused factions within the party of manipulating narratives and warned against divisive politics.
