Kwadwo Boaitey Frimpong, a Ghanaian national (aged 28 or 32, per conflicting reports), has been arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for child pornography. He was arrested on April 29, 2025.
Frimpong pleaded guilty to seven counts of possessing child pornography, following a Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) probe triggered by a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children
A search of his Maryland apartment revealed a laptop containing over 2,000 images and 100 videos of child sexual abuse material, including content involving infants and toddlers
Frimpong has been sentenced to 24 months in prison, with 12 months credited for time served, and ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution to victims
ICE took him into custody after his conviction, pending deportation proceedings. He remains detained while removal proceedings are underway
Background
Frimpong entered the U.S. in 2019 on an F-1 student visa but deviated from academic pursuits to engage in criminal activity, violating visa terms.
Another Ghanaian national, Joseph Osei Boateng, was similarly arrested in Ohio in January 2025 for sex crimes involving a minor, underscoring ICE’s focus on crimes against children
Footage of Frimpong’s arrest was released, sparking debate over immigration policies
