Ghanaian citizens can now travel to Morocco without the need for traditional visas, following a new agreement between the two countries.

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced the policy change, stating that it takes immediate effect. Instead of going through lengthy embassy processes, travelers can obtain an online travel authorization within 24 hours. The minister shared the news on his Facebook page, highlighting the ease of access this new system provides for Ghanaians planning trips to Morocco.

The agreement was reached during a two-day working visit by Ablakwa, where he met with Morocco’s Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita. The move is expected to strengthen bilateral relations and boost trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges between the two nations. With existing direct flights set to increase under the new agreement, the visa waiver is anticipated to enhance connectivity and foster deeper people-to-people engagements. Ablakwa emphasized the importance of breaking down barriers, stating, *”The borders in Africa must not be allowed to divide us—they can be bridges of connectivity.”*

This development marks a significant step in simplifying travel procedures and promoting African integration. By eliminating the traditional visa requirement, Ghana and Morocco are paving the way for smoother cross-border movement, aligning with broader continental efforts to enhance free movement across Africa. As Ablakwa noted, the agreement reflects the impact of diplomacy in improving the lives of citizens, making international travel more accessible and fostering stronger ties between African nations.
