EOCO Denies False Arrest Claims, Confirms Active Springfield Energy Investigations

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has firmly refuted a recent online report alleging the arrest of Springfield Energy’s CEO, Kevin Okyere, in Dubai.

Consequently, the agency has taken the unusual step of issuing a public statement to set the record straight. Moreover, EOCO has revealed that it is not merely investigating one, but two separate and active cases involving the energy company.

Setting the Record Straight

Initially, the publication “Novareport” claimed that Mr. Okyere was detained due to EOCO’s inaction on a petition. However, EOCO’s press statement directly contradicts this narrative. The agency clarified that its standard procedure mandates that investigations must always precede any arrests. Therefore, the claim of an arrest linked to EOCO’s work is fundamentally false.

Two Active Investigations Unveiled

Furthermore, EOCO disclosed the nature of the two ongoing probes. The first investigation stems from a petition filed against Springfield Energy. Simultaneously, the second case involves a significant dispute between Springfield Energy and the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST). EOCO specifically highlighted this latter case as a high priority due to its “immediate impact on BOST’s finances and the local economy.”

A Commitment To Due Process

While EOCO typically avoids commenting on active investigations, it found the false report necessitated a public response. The agency expressed regret that the news portal did not seek clarification before publishing. Ultimately, EOCO reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to diligently investigating and prosecuting economic and organized crime in Ghana.

In conclusion, the public is urged to disregard the claims made by Novareport. EOCO is actively and diligently pursuing its mandate through these two distinct investigations into Springfield Energy’s activities.
