A sad and public disagreement has cast a shadow over the planned funeral for Ghanaian music legend, Daddy Lumba.

His wife, Akosua Serwaa, and their children have taken legal action to stop the burial, claiming they have been completely left out of the preparations.

In a strong statement, Akosua Serwaa accused the family head, Kofi Owusu, of sidelining her. She revealed she only discovered the announced funeral date of December 6 through social media, not from the family itself. This, she says, shows a deep lack of respect for her and her children during this difficult time.

In a press statement issued on October 9, 2025, Akosua Serwaa, who described herself as Daddy Lumba’s legally wedded wife, said she was not consulted in Daddy Lumba’s funeral.

“On 8th October 2025, Abusuapanyin Kofi Wusu granted an interview in which he publicly announced a funeral date for Mr. Fosuh – without consulting Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosuh (the legal wife) or their children. This action shows a complete lack of respect for the immediate family, who must make appropriate preparations before traveling to Ghana for the funeral,” the statement said Read

“Since the passing of Mr. Fosuh, there has been a continuous and deliberate effort to marginalise Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosuh, the wedded wife, in all funeral-related decisions. This behavior is unacceptable and contrary to both cultural and moral principles,”

The conflict goes deeper than just the funeral arrangements. Since Daddy Lumba’s passing, there has been a heated public debate about who his rightful widow is. The legendary singer had two women in his life: Akosua Serwaa and Priscilla Ofori Atta, popularly known as Odo Broni.

Akosua Serwaa is now fighting to clear up this confusion. She firmly states that she is Daddy Lumba’s only legally wedded wife under German law, where they got married. She has directly dismissed Odo Broni’s claims of being his legal spouse.

“We also wish to remind the public that Mr. Charles Kwadwo Fosuh was a citizen of the Federal Republic of Germany, and was legally married to Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosuh on 23rd December 2004 in Bornheim, Germany. Under German law, no man who is already legally married can enter into another marriage,” the statement continued.

The situation became more complicated when a family spokesperson, Kofi Owusu, claimed in a video that his own investigations found Odo Broni to be the legal wife. Akosua Serwaa’s lawsuit challenges this. It accuses Odo Broni and Kofi Owusu of taking the singer’s body to the funeral home under the false idea that Odo Broni was the surviving spouse.

However, the family is pushing back. Another family spokesperson, Collina Amankwah, has dismissed the lawsuit. In a video message, she sent a stern warning to Akosua Serwaa, insisting that the family has the final say in who is declared the widow. She confirmed that the December 6 funeral plans are still moving forward.

With emotions running high, Akosua Serwaa has taken the matter to the Kumasi High Court. She is demanding an injunction to halt the funeral until her concerns are addressed and her position as the sole legal wife is recognised. This legal battle ensures that the nation will be watching closely as the family of a music icon struggles to find peace and agreement.
