The Canada Visa Application Center (VACC) in Abelemkpe, Accra, has seen significant improvement in processing times during the third quatre of 2024.
Prior to the third quarter of the year 2024 and months after the COVID 19 pandemic, any visa applicant who visited the Canadian visa centre was guaranteed to spend not less than two to three hours.
The delays in processing times were attributed to the huge backlog due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
The activities ranged from capturing biometric data to transmission and collection of passports.
All these processes were hectic during the past few months leaving applicants despondent.
It also appeared the centre prioritized biometric data capturing applicants while somehow neglecting passport transmission and collection applicants.
The centre looked chaotic and uncoordinated during those difficult times.
It also appeared all the measures introduced by the centre to avert the situation never seemed to work. The dire situation caused huge human and vehicular traffic on that stretch of road.
The situation caught the attention of most Ghanaians and dominated radio and TV discussions for weeks.
However, in recent months, any visitor or passerby will notice a drastic change and improvements in the situation. There is no heavier human or vehicular traffic which hitherto characterized the centre
Applicants do not look despondent anymore like before.
Perhaps what has worked for the centre was the introduction of courier service for passport transmission that beginning March 18th 2024.
Since the introduction of the new directive, there has been less human and vehicular traffic.
Appointment times on the Canadian visa application website are also now readily available.
Waiting times for biometric appointments have significantly reduced from about one month to just three or four days.
