According to multiple sources, the boxer collapsed mid way through the bout and could not be resuscitated.
The timekeeper initially believed it to be a knockdown, but it quickly became apparent that there was a severe problem.
The deceased boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju suffered a seizure, fell to this ground, with officials rushing in the ring to attempt saving him.
He was declared dead after medical personnel made frantic attempts to resuscitate him. Again, multiple sources indicate that he may have experienced a heart attack.
He was a 40 year old former National and West African light-heavyweight champion.
The former champion was competing in an undercard bout of Ghana’s Professional Boxing League’s Fight Night 15 when the fatal incident occurred occurred.
As the boxing community laments the loss of an experienced boxer, the Ghana Boxing Authority is yet to make an official comment over the tragedy.
