The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced a significant shift in its operations, moving from the issuance of traditional aluminium plates to digital sticker Drive from Port (DP) numbers for imported vehicles.
Effective August 1, 2025, this new system will be implemented at all ports of entry, including Tema and Takoradi, following a successful pilot phase. The initiative aims to enhance security, streamline processes, and provide more efficient services to clients, marking a major step in the DVLA’s digital transformation efforts.
To ensure a smooth transition, the DVLA has partnered with the State Insurance Company (SIC) to provide immediate insurance coverage for vehicles fitted with the new DP stickers before they leave the ports. This collaboration underscores the authority’s commitment to safety and convenience for vehicle owners. The public is urged to cooperate with both the DVLA and SIC to make this innovative system a success, as it promises to reduce delays and improve the overall experience of registering imported vehicles.
For further details or inquiries, the DVLA has directed the public to contact its Customer Service Centre at 0302746760. This move aligns with the authority’s broader goal of leveraging technology to deliver seamless and secure services. As the DVLA embraces this digital future, it reinforces its motto: “Your Safety, Our Concern.”
