On Tuesday night, the Asian country’s president imposed a martial law on the country.
Imposing a martial law temporarily puts the military in charge of power. This also bans all political activities.
The country has not seen that condition in the past 50 years.

The president in a broadcast gave the announcement out of the blue.
This has resulted in a chaotic situation in the country.
The reason the president gave for the imposition of the law was as a result of what he termed “anti state forces” and threat from South Korea. Espousing further reasons for the martial law imposition, the president cited the opposition’s attempt to undermine his government and sow descension in the country’s army.

However, reports indicate that the reason for the decision emanates from his own political whims.
This chaotic situation made parliament convened to reverse the decision. Citizens also gathered at the parliament house in protest of the Yoon Suk Yeol’s desperate decision.

The law makers successfully overturned the presidents martial law imposition. Yoon’s premature martial law imposition has been labeled by opposition party as illegal and unconstitutional.
The country’s president now faces the possibility of an impeachment.
The main opposition party has labelled his actions as an “insurrectionary behavior”.
By Saturday, parliament will have do decide whether to accept the impeachment process.
To succeed in this impeachment process, the decision should be supported by 200 or more votes in parliament. That represents more than two thirds of parliament.
