23-year-old suspect admits sharing intimate videos as part of social media challenge

The Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a 23-year-old student for allegedly publishing obscene material online in breach of Section 280 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

Police apprehended Nhyira Papa Kojo Egyir Hayford, a popular social media user, on Friday, February 27, 2026. Officers conducting routine cyber patrol discovered intimate videos circulating on social media involving the suspect.

“The content appeared on a Snapchat public account belonging to @biggforddd123,” the police report stated. “The recordings involved multiple females, with footage dating between 2023 and January 26, 2026.”

Authorities immediately invited the suspect for questioning. He admitted to posting the videos on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

During interrogation, Hayford told investigators he posted the videos in response to a social media trend. He specifically mentioned participating in a TikTok challenge known as “Auntie Shakira.”

The suspect further admitted to recording another sex video in 2023. He claimed he sold this content to an American woman identified as Naya for $600, equivalent to GH¢6,500 at the time.

Police also invited one of the women featured in the videos, Portia Ampofo, to the station for investigation.

Following preliminary inquiries, authorities transferred the suspect to the Special Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department for further investigation. Officers subsequently released him on police enquiry bail as investigations continue.

The Ghana Police Service used this opportunity to warn the public against sharing explicit or offensive materials online.

“The police take this opportunity to caution the general public against posting obscene and other related materials online since that violates the laws of the land,” the report emphasized.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a safe internet environment for all Ghanaians.

“The police will go all out to ensure that the Internet is safe for every Ghanaian,” the report concluded.
