According to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, 50 of the 150 Ghanaians detained in the United States have final deportation orders and are anticipated to return to Ghana by the middle of the year.

Three Ghanaians have already been processed for deportation and are expected to depart the United States on commercial flights between March 19 and April 1, 2025, Mr. Ablakwa revealed during his speech in Parliament on Thursday, March 13, 2025.

“Updates from the Washington mission indicate as follows: Currently, there are 150 Ghanaians in detention across various centres in the US who are awaiting deportation for crimes such as rape, internet fraud, and illegal entry,” he stated

He added that of the 150 detainees, 50 have final deportation orders and would be deported by the middle of the year, while the other 100 cases have either been dismissed or are pending appeal.
