The University of Ghana has disclaimed a viral social media post alleging that it issued an official letter concerning the degree verification of Malik Basintale, the Acting CEO of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
In a statement, Dr. Elizier Taiba Ameyaw-Buronyah, Director of the Public Affairs Directorate, dismissed the document as fake, clarifying that the letter—purportedly signed by Registrar Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah and dated 27th May 2025—was never issued by the university.
The disputed letter, addressed to the Secretary of the Civil Service Council and titled “RE: REQUEST FOR VERIFICATION OF DEGREE – MALIK BASINTALE,” was described as a forgery, with the university confirming that no such request had been received or processed.
The disclaimer comes amid growing public scrutiny over the academic credentials of high-profile officials in Ghana. Dr. Ameyaw-Buronyah urged the public to disregard the fraudulent document and cautioned against the spread of misinformation.
This incident highlights the increasing challenge of fake documents circulating online, often targeting public figures and institutions. Authorities have yet to comment on whether an investigation will be launched into the source of the forged letter.
