A promising Level 300 student from the University of Media, Arts, and Communications Institute of Journalism (UniMAC-IJ) has tragically died after a hit-and-run incident on the N1 highway.
The campus community is in mourning following the devastating loss.
According to initial reports, the young man, identified as Nelson, was allegedly struck by an unregistered vehicle on the evening of Monday, January 19, 2026.
The incident is said to have occurred at the Dzorwulu traffic light intersection. Nelson was reportedly crossing the highway after a campus visit, en route to his home.
Driver Flees Scene After Feigning Assistance
Eyewitnesses at the scene provided a harrowing account of the events. According to the witnesses, the suspect driver stopped and feigned concern for the victim.
However, instead of rendering aid or contacting authorities, the driver allegedly placed the injured student back into the vehicle. Subsequently, the driver fled the scene entirely.
Nelson, the victim was reported missing for several days until a grim discovery was made. Police later found his body abandoned near the Korle Bu.
Authorities have since launched a full-scale investigation to apprehend the suspect, who now faces serious charges including fatal hit-and-run and obstruction of justice.
