This can really be confusing. Because for me, with just 1.80euro, I could get anywhere on the island by local bus. This is because I traveled alone; without kids. If you’re traveling with your kids, and they are below the age of 12 then you could consider renting a car. Don’t worry too much about booking a car to rent on the internet in advance.

There are hundreds of car rental companies with at least three every 2 minutes’ walk, almost everywhere on the island. It’s so easy to rent a car in Santorini. Car rental companies advertise right from Athens international airport to Santorini airport and every town on the island. If the decision is to rent a car, then make sure you have an international driver’s license and are able to navigate through narrow roads.

are very narrow thus making walking long distances along the roads on the island away from the main attractions quite dangerous. I was always scared of being hit by a car. With the numerous tour buses and cargo trucks plying the narrow roads, it gets quite scary walking along those streets. If you’re traveling alone or with a friend, you may want to enjoy the local bus.
