The Ghana National Fire Service has outlined strategies to safeguard markets in Ghana.
The move by the service is to enhance fire safety in the country’s major markets.
This move might have been triggered by the recent fires at the Kantamanto second hand clothes market in Accra and another fire that occurred few days apart a the Techiman Central market all in the early part of 2025.
Chief Officer, Julius A. Kuunuor said that with the hours of 1800 to 0600 daily, personnel and fire appliances will be deployed at markets across the country to provide fire cover.
He also espoused that in addition to posts in key markets, a dedicated task force will patrol markets daily to ensure swift action in case of any fire.
The Service affirmed its resolve to work with the Police Service and National Security while it assures the public of its dedicated service to protect life and property.
