AngloGold Ashanti, the company whose concession was breached by about 60 illegal miners has released a statement confirming the incident.

The company acknowledged that the incident occurred on the 18th January 2025. It also confirmed that the 60 illegal miners wanted to forcibly enter its concession. The security authorities mobilized to defend the concession resulting in the death of 7 illegal miners.

AngloGold stated that it is community to safety and health of its employees and those in the community.
