According to an official press release dated September 21, 2025, the successful operation was conducted on September 18th. Specifically, officers intercepted two trucks with registration numbers GR 1712-16 and AW 4417-14 at Gbintri, a community near Nalerigu. The suspects, identified as Alhassan Braimah, Yakubu Muntaka, Abdulai Shakur, Mumuni Iddrisu, Mumuni Yakubu, and Moses Ayorik, were apprehended at the scene. Furthermore, investigations revealed that the vehicles had been loaded in Sankase, in the Republic of Togo, before crossing into Ghana. Their intended destination was confirmed to be Gbintri in the North East Region.
Concealment and Discovery of the Contraband
Upon interception, law enforcement agents conducted a thorough search of the trucks. As a result, they discovered the large consignment of Tramadol Hydrochloride 120mg, a potent prescription painkiller popularly known on the street as “Red.” Importantly, the drugs were cleverly concealed among other legitimate goods in the truck with registration number GR 1712-16. The police have since secured all 1,195 boxes as evidence for prosecution purposes.

They admitted that the entire consignment was destined for one of the arrested individuals, Moses Ayorik, at Gbintri. From there, the plan was for the Tramadol to be delivered onward to another individual in Gushegu, indicating a wider distribution network.
Ongoing Investigations and Next Steps
Currently, all six suspects remain in police custody and are actively assisting with the investigation. Meanwhile, police efforts are focusing on a manhunt for other individuals in connection with the case. This major interception highlights the ongoing commitment of the Ghana Police Service and NACOC.
