Online Journalist Okatakyie Afrifa was arrested by National Security Operatives around Kissieman (GIMPA) in Accra.

Report by PeaceFM suggests that he was arrested on the GIMPA road after he completed his examination earlier in the day.

Currently operating his own online media outlet, “For The Records program”, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, previously of Angel FM, is a vocal journalist who speaks against inappropriate conduct in any Government.

Mr Afrifa had made several statements against Government officials and especially on illegal mining. It is unclear whether the arrest is linked to an allegation he made concerning the involvement of National Security Operatives in illegal mining or the lack of interest by the same Security apparatus in curbing the activity.

A week earlier, Okatakyie also made a statement on his show that he had been told that National Security, directed by Richard Gyakpa, was looking for him at the airport.

After his arrest, the family said “We are investigating the situation at the National Security headquarters. We implore the populace to help secure his release. A relative said.

Henry Nana Boakye, NPP organizer spoke in an interview on Peace FM and said the arrest was unfortunate and unwarranted. He also accused the Mahama led government of using the State Security Agency to intimidate citizens and people with opposing views. Mr. Boakye also opined that, the ruling Government should be prepared to arrest more people because he and his party members will not relent in unleashing criticism on the them.

The NPP Organizer posted on his Facebook page that he led a team that engineered the release of the journalist.

In a Facebook post, Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin also condemned the arrest and demanded that Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah be released immediately.
