According to investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, his battle with former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong has been about justice and the truth rather than money.

Anas expressed his immediate satisfaction that not a single accusation was proven against him in court after Kennedy Agyapong was given a full chance to substantiate, and he confirmed that the US$18 million damages awarded against Agyapong in the defamation suit in the United States of America (USA) had been lowered to $500.

“I will continue in my relentless fight against corruption – and in doing that, continue to name, shame, and jail, ” he said in a press statement dated May 11, 2025

Background

In March 2025, Anas Aremeyaw Anas won a case against Kennedy Agyapong after a jury in New Jersey’s Essex County Superior Court found Agyapong guilty of slander.

Anas was given a multi-million dollar settlement by the court for the defamation.

However, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong asked the judge to lower the amount ordered against him [Ken] in a move for remittitur.

Kennedy Agyapong’s move for remittitur was granted by the trial judge, who also lowered the initial award from US$18 million to $500.

However, according to Anas, the jury’s verdict against Kennedy Agyapong was “excessive” even if the judge found that Agyapong had defamed him.

However, it was crucial to emphasize that, “as I previously did, that, this fight has not been about the money, but rather, a fight for truth and justice.” Anas stated that he had numerous opportunities for redemption.
