Saddick Adams, host of Angel FM’s Morning show has said militants from neighboring counties have taken over Ghana’s forests.
He made reference to Erastus Donkor’s report on the operations of militants guarding illegal miners in Ghana’s forests.
According to the Journalist, the militants comprise of men from Cameroon and Cote D’Ivoire.
Saddick said “Currently, there are Cameroonian and Ivorian militants in Ghanaian forests. I have witnessed this…I mean those who are armed at these sites are not Ghanaians, especially in the Western Region. There is a town in Cote D’Ivoire called Bengassou, where there was illegal mining. The Ivorian authorities have shot and killed illegal miners in a bit to stop illegal mining. The people of Bengassou established a militant group that provides security for the illegal miners. In November 2024, the Ivorian authorities killed nine of the militants and they also killed four soldiers in a clash, while 22 were injured”
It was scary when the show host revealed that the militants in Bengassou are now in Ghana providing security for the illegal miners. These militants according to Saddick Adams have more sophisticated weapons even than the Ghana Army.
Additionally, Mr. Adams said that some of the financiers of the illegal mining are big time politicians in Ghana
