Reports indicate that Paul Adom-Okyere, host of “Good Evening Ghana” and Metro TV broadcaster, has been taken into custody by national security after being questioned by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
He was reportedly whisked away alongside two other suspects, with sources suggesting his arrest is linked to alleged procurement breaches during his tenure as Board Chairman of the Ghana Airport Company Limited. After hours of interrogation, Adom-Okyere was unable to meet bail conditions, leading to his detention.
Earlier in the day, Adom-Okyere made a 17-minute presentation on Metro TV, detailing his side of the story and accusing the OSP of targeting him to silence his frequent criticisms of the government. He claimed his arrest was politically motivated and meant to intimidate him. In his broadcast, he also implicated investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, alleging that the journalist was aware of the case and conducting a parallel investigation.
However, Manasseh Azure Awuni swiftly denied some of Adom-Okyere’s claims in a Facebook post, stating that his own findings would eventually reveal the truth. The journalist did not elaborate further but hinted that his investigation would bring new details to light.
Meanwhile, Adom-Okyere’s legal team has remained silent, with no official statement released regarding his arrest or detention.
The case has sparked public interest, with many questioning the timing and motives behind the broadcaster’s arrest.
While the OSP has yet to issue a formal statement, the situation raises concerns about press freedom and accountability in public office. As investigations continue, Ghanaians await further developments to determine whether the allegations against Adom-Okyere hold merit or if his claims of political persecution will gain traction.
