Ghana Police Uncover Elaborate Faking A Kidnapping Incident, Arrest Suspect Benjamin Owusu
The Central East Regional Police Command has successfully arrested a 35-year-old man, Benjamin Owusu, for orchestrating a fake robbery and kidnapping incident.
This startling case, which began with a distressing text message, was ultimately unraveled by diligent police work and forensic science.
The Initial Report and Crime Scene
Initially, on September 3, 2025, the Millennium City District Police received a concerning report. A complainant informed officers that he had received a text message from Owusu claiming he was under a robbery attack at his residence in Fijai, a suburb of Millennium City.
Consequently, police officers immediately visited the scene. However, they found Owusu’s house empty. Upon investigation, they discovered what appeared to be blood stains on his bedroom floor, raising immediate alarms about his safety. As a standard procedure, the police carefully lifted samples of the stains for forensic analysis.

Investigation Reveals Inconsistencies
Meanwhile, as the investigation progressed, detectives uncovered suspicious activities. For instance, they found that Owusu had abandoned the SIM card used to send the initial distress message. Furthermore, on September 5th, he successfully replaced the card and began making phone calls from a location in Elubo, Western Region.
Subsequently, a major breakthrough came from the Police Forensic Crime Lab. The results from the DNA examination conclusively proved that the blood samples from Owusu’s bedroom were negative for human blood.
The Arrest and Confession After Faking A Kidnapping Incident
Therefore, based on this critical evidence and gathered intelligence, a dedicated investigative team tracked down the suspect. They subsequently arrested Benjamin Owusu at his hideout in Akatamanso, Ashanti Region, on September 24, 2025.
Upon his arrest, Owusu confessed to the elaborate scheme. He admitted that he intentionally killed a duck and used its blood to stain his bedroom floor. Ultimately, he staged his own kidnapping because he could not account for money belonging to his employer that was in his custody.
Police Conclusion and Warning
Following the confession, the suspect is currently in custody and will be put before the court to face justice after the completion of investigations.
In conclusion, the Central East Regional Police Command has commended all stakeholders who assisted in the arrest. Finally, they issued a strong caution to others, stating that individuals with similar intentions to deceive the law should desist, as they will face the full rigors of the law if arrested.
