Life in UPSA: The Ups and Downs of University Life
My experience and life at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions.
Every day, I navigate various expectations, and while it’s been blissful, it’s also been devastating at times. Meeting new people from different backgrounds can be challenging, especially since I tend to be reserved in new environments.
The Thrill Of Campus Life
Despite the challenges, fascinating things happen both on campus and in class. The journey of education at this level hasn’t been easy.
I’ve found myself scrambling to keep up with assignments and lectures, feeling overwhelmed by the pressure to perform. However, some lecturers have been hilarious and dedicated, making the experience more enjoyable.
The Strict Rules of UPSA
Contrary to the notion that university life is all about freedom, UPSA prioritizes discipline and strict rules. The University enforces strict dress code with discipline and academic excellence.
The Joshua Alabi library is always bustling, especially during exam periods or revision weeks. I recall a particularly chaotic day on April 24, 2025, when the library was packed, and we had to wait for seats to become available.
The Pressure of Interim Assessments
As interim assessment weeks approach, sleepless nights become the norm. The pressure to prepare for exams and submit assignments on time can be overwhelming.
Some lecturers schedule assessments for the same week, adding to the stress. However, virtual assessments can be a mixed bag, with some lecturers being more demanding than others.
A Lecturer to Remember
One lecturer who stands out is Mr. Andy Pratt. Despite being demanding, his dedication and hard work ethic are inspiring. He pushes us to produce quality work, and his feedback is invaluable. His ability to make us write detailed assignments, like the 500-word essays, has helped me improve my writing skills.
Conclusion
Life in UPSA is a mix of adventure, frustration, and growth. While it’s not always easy, the experience has taught me to be resilient and dedicated.
Supportive lecturers like Mr. Pratt, I’m motivate me to push through the challenges and make the most of my time at UPSA.
