Kylian Mbappé has filed a legal complaint against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), accusing the club of “moral harassment” during his final months at the French giants, the Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed on Thursday.
The Real Madrid forward alleges that PSG owes him €55 million ($61 million) in unpaid wages and claims he was unfairly sidelined before the 2023-24 season after refusing to extend his contract. The complaint references “lofting”—a French term describing the practice of isolating a player from the first-team squad—which Mbappé says he endured as tensions escalated between him and the club.
The dispute stems from Mbappé’s decision in June 2023 not to activate a one-year extension clause in his PSG contract, effectively making him a free agent in 2024. PSG, unwilling to lose him for nothing, excluded him from their preseason tour and banished him to train with fringe players. The club also reportedly pushed for a €300 million transfer to Saudi side Al-Hilal, which Mbappé rejected. Though he eventually reintegrated into the squad, relations remained strained, with some PSG fans booing him in his final home game. Mbappé, who scored a club-record 256 goals in seven years, felt betrayed by unfulfilled promises about squad reinforcements after signing a lucrative extension in 2022.
Mbappé’s legal team announced in April that they would pursue action against PSG, arguing that his treatment amounted to harassment. The case highlights growing tensions between elite players and clubs over contract disputes and power dynamics. PSG, which went on to win the Champions League without him this season, has yet to publicly respond to the latest allegations.
