A Kumasi High Court has officially recognized two women as the surviving spouses of the late highlife icon, Charles “Daddy Lumba” Fosuh.

Consequently, the court dismissed a lawsuit from one wife seeking to be named the sole widow.
Plaintiff Seeks Exclusive Widowhood Rights
Akosua Serwaa Fosuh initiated the legal battle following the musician’s passing. She petitioned the court to formally declare her as the only lawful wife. Furthermore, she sought orders to prevent her rival, Priscila Ofori (Odo Broni), and the head of Daddy Lumba’s family from recognizing Odo Broni as a spouse.

Court Rules on Burden of Proof in the Daddy Lumba Wives Court Ruling
However, the court ruled that Akosua Serwaa failed to meet the legal burden of proof. Presiding Judge Her Ladyship Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur stated the submitted evidence “fell short” of legal requirements. Specifically, the plaintiff did not provide the original German marriage certificate and its corresponding Ghana Embassy certification. Instead, she presented only an extract.

Additionally, the court highlighted her failure to present a recognized German civil marriage expert to testify. The judge emphasized that in Germany, a civil marriage cannot be established “by conduct nor proof of photos, especially in the era of Photoshop.”
Customary Marriage Upheld in Final Daddy Lumba Wives Court Ruling
Conversely, the court found no reliable proof that Akosua Serwaa’s earlier customary marriage to Daddy Lumba had been dissolved. It described the family’s evidence of a separation as inconsistent and unreliable.

Therefore, this case “Daddy Lumba’s wives” court ruling affirms both marital unions.
Ultimately, this landmark case of Daddy Lumba’s wives court ruling legally establishes both Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni as widows of the highlife legend, entitling them both to widowhood rights.
